Please stop the unethical practices you probably don’t know you are practicing on social media

We all love social media. It’s human social interaction that we might not get in daily life. It’s an avenue to network with other professionals. Facebook is an amazing tool for connecting people & doing business but there are some spoil sports doing things that are unethical. Take this post I’ve embeded. Check out the first comment & how out of hand it got FAST.

People do not appreciate link dumping on their timeline posts. It’s rude. It’s tacky. It’s sleazy. You might as well be a used care salesman trying to unload a lemon. Not to mention this is an unethical approach to marketing. It’s flat out spamming people when you do this. The comment has ZERO to do with the conversation starter posted.

This “life coach” then took it a step further after I advised that he should not spam my posts. He flat out gas lights people when his spamming tactic does not work. Unethical approach strike two. That is a huge fraud flag in my book. I do not know what qualifications this guy has to be a life coach, but I’m certain he will do more damage to people than ever help considering this interaction.

I thought it would be done from here. IT WASN’T. He ticked off my audience and came back to offend more and try to shame everyone that chimed in with their own opinions of the situation and further pitch himself.

The reason I’m posting this is not to shame this guy. I could not care less about his little comment, it does not impact my life. It’s to point out that when you do unethical actions in marketing, it hurts everyone. Eventually facebook is going to come up with some way to combat these spammers. It’s most likely going to really lock down what we can do with our public image through our profiles. Our algorithm will be impacted, possibly not giving us any reach killing our visibility all together.

Taking a moment to introduce yourself to your new contacts only takes a few moments. You can prepare a nice copy paste message to say hello and let your new contacts know who you are & that you would like to network.

Try this out for size :)

Hi (Person’s name)
Thank you for connecting with me. I’m a (insert title here) based out of (where you live). I would love to get to know a bit more about you and what you do. I do all of my networking online & like to build working relationships with my contacts. Perhaps you would be open for a coffee chat?

I get it, you’re super excited and want to generate leads for your business. REALLY do not do the spammy link blast drive by on posts and in direct messages. Social media is meant to be social & for building relationships not soliciting everyone and demanding they send you leads.

Give some claps if you love the example introduction!

You can head over to my Facebook group to become part of my network & learn more about how I help people ethically market their business online!
